Collective action and protest provides a unified and solidified approach in addressing issues in our society, keeping individuals and systems in check, proposing significant recommendations for change, and eradicating laws and policies from these problematic ideologies. These actions can start from a single voice raising certain incongruences and anomalies, or resisting specific schemes that in turn can be amplified thru collection of voices, including those unconsciously affected by the corrupt system. Advocacy, activism, empowerment, and unity are some principles that allows movements to persevere challenges and opposition such as creation of courageous conversations within media, provision of platforms for the invisible and the unheard, public investigation and criticism of the anomalies, and identification of roles and contribution within the movement. As educators, working within a system that is built to be unequal and disproportionate, the challenge is the everyday action that racially balances opportunities, the creation of context for collective and collegial responses, and the hope that one day, we can create systems (that actually works!) that respects human rights, equity, and inclusivity.
